Weekly Update: 3/21/16

• We are looking for volunteers to help mentor groups for the 5th Grade Exhibition. Mentors will receive training Monday, April 18 (6-7pm) and will then begin working with an assigned group. The mentor will assist in guiding the students though the Exhibition process. Parent mentors are a key component to ensuring each group has the guidance they need to produce quality presentations. If you are interested in mentoring a group, please let me know.

• There will be an email later this week from Sign Up Genius. We are having student led conferences on April 14th from 4:30 - 6. This is a chance for your student to show and tell you about what they have been working on in our Unit of Inquiry. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to hear from your child's perspective what they are learning about at school

 

Instructional Updates:

We had a very successful trip to Tybee where students explored the marsh, maritime forest and beach biomes. They learned about constructive and destructive forces at work on our barrier islands. They also reviewed scientific classification concepts in their invertebrates and crabs and critters class. I hope that you've heard great things over the weekend! In science we will continue to explore How the World Works through our inquiry into volcanoes and earthquakes.

In math this week, students will continue to explore properties of 2-dimensional figures including:
-area of rectangles with fractional side lengths
-properties of quadrilaterals
Attached below is the homework for this week. Homework will be due Friday as students will not receive the homework until Tuesday. (I am out Monday due to a sick child)
